Total announces the acquisition of a 36% interest in the Block 72 production sharing agreement in Yemen. Operated by DNO Yemen AS (DNO), the 1,821-square-kilometre license is located in the southern part of the Masila Basin. The acquisition is subject to the approval of Yemen’s Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources.

Over the past few years, Total E&P Yemen has been uniquely interested to develop partnership with the Road Traffic Department of the Republic of Yemen in order to promote more awareness about safety in road driving. Total E&P Yemen has never hesitated to support with a yearly contribution whenever approached by the Road Traffic Department for participation in the Road Safety Week Campaign.

On April 10th, H.E. Ali Abdullah Saleh, President of Yemen, arrived in Block 10 to inaugurate PEC Power Plant for which Total E&P Yemen has constructed Gas Treatment Unit and is supplying the gas.

After a multi-phase and intensive selection process, Total E&P Yemen celebrated yesterday, the 11th of August 2009, the final selection of its ten winners of TOTAL Scholarship Porgramme. Out of 800 applicants, 5 of the undergraduate scholarship deservingly won and will depart early September to pursue their BA Degrees in Engineering and Earth Science at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. The other 5 graduate scholarship winners will also depart early September to pursue their MA Degrees in Law and Business Ethics and Business and Taxation Law at the University of Cergy-Pontoise in France.

As part of their social and cultural sponsoring programs in Yemen, the Total Foundation, the TOTAL Group, and its local subsidiary TOTAL E&P YEMEN have recently funded the restoration of two bronze lion statues. The two lions belong to the two ancient kingdoms of Sheba and Qataban in Yemen.

On Thursday, 4 June 2009, Block 10 received H.E. Mr. Awad Al-Soqatry, Minister of Electricity and H.E. Mr. Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, Governor of Hadramout. The visiting delegation included also the Deputy Governor of Hadramout for Wadi and Desert Affairs, the Assistant Deputy Governor of Hadramout for Wadi and Desert Affairs, and by PEC officials from Sana’a and Wadi Hadramout.

Committed to not only the economic development of our local communities but also to the youth in these communities, Total E&P Yemen has recently supported the Regional Football Cup. The Football Cup matches involve 21 sport clubs from throughout Wadi Hadramout region. This financial support was mainly for the procurement of sport supplies needed for these teams.

On March 19, 2009, Mr. Martin Deffontaines, General Manager of Total E&P Yemen, and the company’s management team received H.E. Mr. Abdurabo Mansour Hadi, Vice President of Yemen. The visit, the second for His Excellency to Block 10, indicates the strong partnership TOTAL enjoys with Yemen.
The Vice President was introduced in a tour on Block 10 to major projects such as the Central Compression Unit (CCU) and the Regional Gas Power Plant, a project managed in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and Energy represented by the Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) and the Ministry of Oil and Minerals.
